-I Like A24 Movies Better Than Chad Part 21-
Im sad I didn’t find this to be as much of a masterpiece as other people but it’s still great! The cinematography is great and very intimate and the acting is all good and pretty realistic. I can’t believe this was Sasha Lane’s first ever acting gig! She did great! I really enjoyed seeing the dynamic between Star and Jake’s characters play out and I feel like that’s when the movie really shines. But to get through that you have to sit through a lot of boring stuff in my opinion. A lot of road trip movies are hit or miss for me and this is probably the slowest one I’ve seen. There are so many scenes of people just rapping along to the radio in a van for long periods of time or dancing and it gets really old and repetitive after awhile and made me really feel that run time especially since it felt like they would never end. I also felt like a lot of the characters were pointless and one note to where I didn’t really care about any of them. There are a lot of interesting scenes that deconstruct American culture and the American dream that I liked and appreciated. I’d recommend this but i think you’ll get a lot more out of it if you’re in the right mindset to watch a long meandering movie.
