Logan’s review published on Letterboxd:
Moulin Rouge is god damn insane. It's completely overwhelming and in your face all of the time. Wether it's the comedy scenes with the wacky sound effects and fast cutting or if its in the super, super melodramatic serious scenes where everything is cranked to 11, it's always at maximum intensity, which is why it didn't work for me.
Like yeah, all the colours and design is very appealing, the songs are pretty good, if very out of place at times, sometimes it works a little, but like its so incredibly cheesy and not in an endeering way. You can make something thats extremely cheesy still be good, corniness isn't inherently bad, but this movie isn't good at making that work. The comedy in this movie and the editing are genuinely horrificly bad, the story is completely generic and so plainly and basically explained, it's paced so poorly and it has no idea what tone it wants to go for other than being insane.
It's a complete mess. I'd be lying if I said it didn't sometimes work for me, but for the majority of the time it was just real bad.
