Watched this with the lights off, speakers blasted and OH BOY WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! A BEAUTIFUL, MADDENING FILM!
Add this to the list of many GORGEOUS looking films of 2019. Every scene looks meticulously crafted. The amount of passion and dedication put into this film deserves admiration. From the direction, performances, set pieces, it’s just a sight to behold (to ye, me beauty!)
The aspect ratio adds to the dread and hopelessness the characters go through. Interactions felt like swords that cut both ways. Pattinson and Dafoe holding their own.
Shows how far man can stomach isolation, paranoia, and guilt.
Winslow’s unreliability (yes I prefer calling him that bc it suits him better, at least for me) culminates into a literal descent to madness after a confrontation with the light where he has finally found his answer.
It will probably take multiple viewings for me to come to a thorough comprehension of all the details laid out in the film, but for now, consider me impressed.
