The thing that struck me most about this film, other than the incredibly visual and literary beauty of the whole thing, was that even without the presence of a man in the film (sans the one guy who showed up for 5 seconds and said nothing), you could feel the crushing weight of patriarchy ruling everything around every woman in that home. That has sat with me all day after watching it.
