“I come home, she lifted up her wings, guess that this must be the place.”
To everyone reading this review, if you only listen to one recommendation of mine for the entire year, PLEASE let it be this one. You must watch Stop Making Sense.
To say that this is a masterpiece is putting it lightly. The showmanship alone from the Talking Heads is unlike anything you will ever see from a band. Beautifully pieced together and shot by director Jonathan Demme. I personally believe this is a greater achievement then Silence of the Lambs and you would never think that a concert could be a work of art. From the lighting, to the cinematography, to the staging of the band. Every decision is the perfect choice.
You don’t have to be a fan of the Talking Heads to get totally sucked into this film and that alone I believe is it’s greatest gift. The energy is infectious and I dare you to not look in awe at the performance of David Byrne.
Add this to your watchlist and turn up the volume as loud as you can and you can all thank me later.
Also, Criterion, please put this out on 4K. Thanks.
Top Shelf! Gets my highest recommendation.
