The whole time I was watching this, I felt as if like everything around me disappeared. I lost track of the time, I forgot where I was, and it was like the world stopped and the screen in front of me was the only thing that existed. Was that spatial presence?

    The Pollen of Flowers

    ★★★½

Best known as the first South Korean film to openly feature a homosexual relationship, The Pollen of Flowers is a dark allegory for abusive power and self-immolating desire that follows Hyeong Ma, a businessman, who brings home his young, male, secretary/gay lover Dan Ju for a visit. I Saw the Devil

    ★★★★★

I want to start off by saying that no amount of superlatives could quite explain how much I love this film. Don't get me wrong, A Dirty Carnival is still my favourite South Korean Film but I Saw the Devil is certainly high up on my list.

    Free Fall

    ★★★½

Described by some as the German Brokeback Mountain, Free Fall is a heart-rending tale of a man's refusal to accept his true self, that simply lacks the sheer gut-wrenching heartache and depth of Ang Lee's classic.

The German Brokeback Mountain soubriquet may not be quite right, but Free Fall is still an outstanding film and I have to admit that I genuinely liked it. It is a paragon of German cinematography and deserves far more acclaim and accolades than it has received thus far.
