I liked this. Oscar Isaac is fantastic as the lead, who really should be just dismissed as a freeloading loser, but who is likeable just because of his music.
I can even stand Justin Timberlake as one of the Peter, Paul and Mary types alongside Carey Mulligan (another outstanding performance) and Stark Sands. The music is just really that good, a kind of gospel folk combo you'd probably find in the early 60s Greenwich Village.
And there's a CAT. Perhaps the most adorable and greatest cat since, well, Cat himself back in 1961's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. This film would get three stars straight off the bat just because of the cat.
The colours, the locations, the atmosphere are all spot on. Even the cameo appearances and character bits are great (John Goodman, F Murray 'forever Salieri' Abraham).
Possibly one of the most accessible Coen Brothers films, and one which has a real heart, for a change.
