    A single white female for the social media age. Slower paced than expected, but that only adds to the cringe and creep of it all. The ending is pretty spot on at capturing the craze of rewarding narcissistic apology videos. Aubrey Plaza’s flip between scrolling fan and put-on wannabe influencer was engaging.

    Was such a treat to catch this on the big screen at one of the best gems in Portland: Clinton Street Theater. Even more wonderful was being able to see the Q&A following the film with director Jackie Kong. Her retelling of shooting this in only 18 days, coming up with costumes and music from many different decades to give the film a timeless feeling, and throwing some brains and eyeballs in a jar to create what became a truly…

    A lovely rewatch as we drift slowly into fall times πŸ‚
    Aside from the obviously iconic transformation scene, what I really love about this is how dark the dialogue is. Where many a creature feature would linger on the blood of it all, this classic stands it’s ground as a gripping drama outside of that - and tends to make the violence as quick as a sneaky animal attack would be. The most heavy parts lie in the hauntings, making it a really unique entry in the werewolf subgenre (seeing as the wolf man is not nearly the most horrific part).
