Baron Frankenstein is as humorously hairy as the busted monster himself. And while Cushing is always pro, it’s the collection of inmates who standout here. All coming together to create one helluva freak show.
You know you’re in for a treat as soon as that ear hits the ground. As humorous as it seems, Spider Baby is actually damn scary in how easy it is to overlook the horror presented. You can focus on the funny but there’s no denying the matter of fact violence unfolding onscreen. Groundbreaking work from Jack Hill.
LUPITA IS QUEEN ✂️
First film of SXSW 2019 at Paramount. Awesome (but rushed) Q&A w/ Jordan Peele and full cast. Amazing answer from Peele to a question concerning the theme of Us:
“I have a very clear meaning and commentary I’m trying to strike with this film. I’m also trying to design a film that’s very personal for every individual. On the broader strokes of things, this movie is about this country. When I decided to write this movie…
Booze in a book, booze in the toilet, feeding booze to the children & hiding booze in the closet. Drunk Lois Lane calling out a gold-plated whore then gasping for air. Oinking piggy licking at fear as a naughty Santa curses winter break plans. Claude the crying kitty knows the moaning maniac. The attic creaks over a broken door. Blocking pucks turns to fear and paranoia. Sweaty Dave pounding the keys and wanting a baby. Sexy Saxon searching then giggling at incompetence. Carols are sung in chokes, screams and shrieks.
Merry Christmas, horror fans. May you all receive that phone call you least expect.
