The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is an example of a perfect biopic. It genuinely makes you relate to Jean-Dominique Bauby, the lead character portrayed by Mathieu Amalric, in so many innovative ways and ultimately makes you superficially feel his pain and daily struggles. It portrays all of the important details from his life before and after the traumatic event.
There couldn’t have been a better option for Jean’s feelings to be portrayed than to make the viewer go inside his mind and his feelings. Masterfully structured narrative, perfect pacing and incredible work of audience manipulation.
