ira martin’s review published on Letterboxd:
at a time when sexual abuse in hollywood is at such a high, how is a film about an adult having sexual relations with a teenager getting critical acclaim?
EDIT: my biggest problem is the romanticization of the relationship. if elio was played by an actual 17 year old it would be frowned upon. if the roles were switched and this was a heterosexual film - with oliver an older man, and elio a teenage girl - it would be frowned upon. i'm confused as to how this is acceptable.
