A bit pretentious. Story felt too compressed. Not one of these characters came across as likeable (which isn’t always a bad thing), but it all felt so shallow. Some decent performances though, and some surprisingly tender moments.
Rewatching this as an adult and though I definitely agree that Cher’s performance is phenomenal, I have a much greater appreciation for the extravagance of Nicolas Cage’s performance. I’m being so genuine when I say that man is actually a genius. He knew exactly what that character needed to be and I had a BLAST watching him and Cher perform alongside one another.
Also, omg, the supporting cast? Everyone knew exactly who they needed to become for their roles. They knew when to be subtle and when to be over the top (which, admittedly was a lot of the time). Just incredibly funny!
Watched this for Stephanie Hsu (obviously), but this was so fun. It has its issues, and some of the jokes didn’t really land, but I had a blast watching this!
I also particularly resonated with the part when Audrey is baited into naming all the ‘Succession’ characters and she quickly proceeds to start naming them without missing a beat. She is me and I am her.
