Sydney Film Festival 2018
Haunting, devastating, powerful and mesmerizing. Burns gradually, systematically and unsettling with incredible slow tension and pace until it goes out with a shocking collapse in the final moments.
Lee Chang-dong showcases once again how to be a masterclass director while South Korea continues to pump out challenging, hard-hitting films that continue to thoroughly impress. As far as I’m concerned, this is peak cinema. I’m truly overwhelmed, this will only improve upon re-watches. Sitting there in the dark as the credits rolled... few words can truly express my feelings at that moment. An astonishing work of cinema that is utterly unforgettable.
