The perfect movie for me. My new favorite movie. Everything I want to create with filmmaking. Everything I am. My name, Maximilian. The year I was born 1998. My religion, Judaism. My hair choice, bald. My residence, New York City. My type of filmmaking, minimalist. My type of score, chaotic. My type of color, black & white. My favorite subject, numbers. It's filmed like a stop motion animation but not at all. It gives the chunky feeling of the style with…

    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

Wow. It’s an all encompassing exclamation. It can be a reaction of excitement and mania or a statement of how much one couldn’t believe they loathed what they just experienced. This film is a film I happen to love. No surprise there.  A little over a year ago it was announced Charlie Kaufman would be adapting Iain Reid’s 2016 book I’m Thinking of Ending Things into a movie for Netflix. At the time Charlie Kaufman had written and directed my…

Way better than I remember. Still kind of go in and out of it. But great cast I appreciate a lot more now than I did on my first watch. Really horrible stuff. Glad it got brought to light in this way and insane we’ve allowed it to go on so long as a society. Despicable. Fuck the church.

I loved it. It was frustrating to pick a scene to pee during because every character was so brilliant. I wanted to watch everyone. Look at the cast! And visually stunning. It looks like an elaborate play mixed with a Netflix Original Series but done to a place I didn’t think possible. Every element hits! Shout out Mr. X for the visual effects! Also watched on my step-brothers lighting system that blends all the lights of the house into their…

If this final scene doesn’t shake you to your core I don’t understand you. Seriously one of the best single scenes i’ve ever seen. More on this movie once I see it a few more times, it’s that good. Shoutout everyone involved. One of my favorites of the year if not my absolute favorite.

John Huston is an absolute acting legend, for proof see The Other Side of The Wind (2018). His directing is definitely interesting interesting, with cool references to 40s filmmaking. I appreciated seeing such a young Jeff Bridges, he was nearly unrecognizable. My favorite though was easily Nicholas Colasanto's Ruben. Easily on par with his performance in Raging Bull (1980) as Tommy Como and just the most interesting voice I've heard in awhile. Would love to hear his music if it exists. Fun watch with Griffin and Bookie, two incredible friends.
