Alright, I finally watched it!! Now, where do I begin? I was tempted to turn this movie off at the beginning just because although I love A24 films, this one didn’t peak my interest. I’m sort of glad that I didn’t though. The Lighthouse follows two men (lighthouse keepers), who are working on a remote island for a few weeks and are trying to maintain their sanity. Not going to lie, I have many questions for this movie and don’t feel like I thoroughly understood every aspect, but this is my general reaction. The way this is shot is so stunning and every black-and-white shot had me in awe. I’m not used to watching black and white movies, especially in the square ratio, so it was hard to keep my attention but the ending is what really stood out to me! I am an extreme lover of Greek mythology and everything about this screamed Prometheus, as Wake comments on Howard’s fate. Pattinson and Dafoe are just exquisite in this film. I’m glad to see that Pattinson is branching out from his Twilight days and movies like The Lighthouse really proves that!
