Manny Liotta’s review published on Letterboxd:
I cried. I laughed. I held my breath tight. My jaw was dropped. I felt nauseous. I felt violated. My stomach and head feel so heavy right now. I had goosebumps. I was invested from the very first second. How can you not? This is insane. Absolutely positively insane. This might be one of the most insane wide releases in the history of cinema. So many walk outs will happen, so many people will be furious or not understand and so many people will try and put this film down but it will stand tall in 2019 cinema as something raw and unrelenting. So many scenes and images stuck in my minds eye. I had a 45 minute convo with 5 strangers afterwards. We all agreed 95% of movies these days don’t warrant ANY discussion whatsoever. When was the last time you talked to strangers about insane cinema? For me it was tonight. I am in filmmaking heaven anytime Ari Aster is captain and I will be on his fucking ship every-single-time, Midsommar is the daydream nightmare you never knew you needed. Now let’s rewatch this fucking thing 3 more times in theaters shall we?
