Dirk Diggler’s review published on Letterboxd:
As I have just finished Hannibal, the tv-series (I loved it btw - Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal is impeccable), I thought it would be interesting to see another take on the novel by Thomas Harris.
Manhunter is definitely a decent take on the novel; It's well-directed with Mann's great visual style, the cinematography was stunning, and I liked the creepy and tense atmosphere of the film. William Petersen's Will Graham was good, and Tom Noonan's Francis Dollarhyde was a decently scary villain. But I felt the film became generic and cheesy, the soundtrack was at times very off-putting, and the climax and ending just felt too flat and rushed. Ultimately the good outweigh the bad.
