A surprising amount of depth in a straightforward little package. We cheered for battery-operated candles!

Saw in Chicago and was so bummed I couldn’t see with the full set in New York but birbiglia specials are always so well put together and capture so much of the essence of his shows 🫶 the oona bits on the ground play more sweetly here when you’re down there with him

Obviously loved but also I would watch all of the source footage/works in uncut succession so

Always a beautiful experience watching a movie that many of your favorite movies owe so much to

What can I say?! It just works…a thousand pieces coming together with care and intention…an alchemy of filmmaking that in itself reveal the intangibles between people…sweeping momentum over so many years that makes you consider the moments we get to sit in…etc etc

Completely disarms you with a zany, relatable setup punctuated with opportunities for deep belly laughs to then unfold into something unassumingly expansive and deeply moving. A couple really excellent “performances” (Gabe!!) and compelling sound design take this to the next level. 

So glad I finally made it to the firehouse. What a wonderful place to see movies.

Strangely more elvis than I expected. Soars in its montages. The idea that James Austin Johnson could convincingly play all of these characters popped into my head to haunt my viewing for a solid hour

A musical without song and dance……you get me?

To accompany a Sunday sauce 🫶 I have been watching Orchard Street on a bit of a loop for a work project lately… certainly brought a layer of richness to my watch. Something to be said for letting the camera roll and piecing it together as a holistic exercise in observation.

Finally had a chance to hang out and watch a movie at my new job, can u believe 🥲 I sure can’t! Anyway this movie is a zany good time and has a running gag about a circumcision that is just wild

My friend and I decided today was the day we finally went to the ipic and the pickings were slim (hence why we never find ourselves at the ipic) and listen, I must admit, I was cry-laughing at one point, but not for any real reason this movie intended. A wild crowd for this kind of theater. Bobby cannavale……keep doing whatever you’re doing.
