Synecdoche, New York

Synecdoche, New York ★★★★★

I’m giving this my third ever like

I don’t even know how to talk about this movie. Probably the greatest film I’ve seen since 2001: A Space Odyssey. Charlie Kaufman captures humanity, what life is, what a performance is, what a movie even is. This completely changed my view on how film can be made.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is the lead character. The performance captures the performance. Potent. Moving. Truthful. Is that enough words to describe a masterpiece.

In the end, I can’t put into words what I just experienced. I’ll sit on this for a while before I rewatch it, and I feel like it will always be in the back of my head for the rest of my life. Time passing, people living, people being born, people not being born yet, people dying, people being dead.

The end is built into the beginning.
