Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time ★★★★★

this movie was everything i wanted for evangelion and more. once again, hideaki was able to completely shatter my expectations, giving me the opposite from what i expected in the first half (a soulful, feel-good small-town drama), and a surprisingly non-cryptic, but completely action-packed and emotional second half.

it just has it all. fanservice, callbacks to the series and previous films, with perfect and wholesome character arcs for everyone, some damn good dialogue, editing, music, and animation throughout, and what's arguably a perfect conclusion that still touches on themes of existentialism and metafiction without being utterly depressing.

i think that, without a doubt, this was meant to be the true ending of eva, a truly fulfilling and non-tragic one. dare i say even... happy?

and don't get me wrong, EoE is still perfect in its own way (and arguably a better film than this), but now seeing things in the grand scheme of things, it was never really meant to be the ending for all the characters we've got to know and love through the years. they deserved better, and better is what we got.

so yeah this is basically a perfect film by far the best of the year and probably my favorite evangelion piece of media no scratch that it's on par with end of evangelion anyway watch this it's incredible tysm hideaki i wanted to cry like a baby for the whole thing you're the best k bye guys i'm gonna go watch free guy starring ryan reynolds now.
