Irvin Malcolm’s review published on Letterboxd:
A hedonistic alcoholic writer reconnects with his newly divorced sister suffering from depression, both estranged from their respective children. It's been a long while since I've seen a John Cassavetes film and this one is probably one of my very favorites (Opening Night might be in trouble). Based on the premise, you could expect either a broad, silly comedy or a depressing and/or dull film which wallows in misery. This is neither. It's a beautifully acted film with comic moments and emotional moments. Despite the fact that the film is quite grounded, you are sucked in and absorbed in this reality thanks to John Cassavetes' beautiful direction. Man, he and Gena Rowlands have never been better together. This is a superb piece of work. Definitely an essential in John Cassavetes' filmography and cinema in general. Loved it.
