Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★½

Disappointed but not surprised that there's no trace of Rian Johnson in this movie. For the most part, it is shot identically to The Force Awakens and has the same camera tics that are present in blockbuster after blockbuster. More shots of people reacting to an event than the event itself, quick inserts of unknown characters supplying exposition,
I could go on.

Most egregiously, this movie still follows the "laws" of Star Wars that fundamentally undermine suspense and surprise in any one of the movies. From the beginning, we are told who the "brave heroes" are, the main characters are always placed into the climax somehow, no "good" character dies in vain, and a million other Star Wars "laws" that evidently reveal the naivety and predictability of the franchise.
