The Lair of the White Worm

The Lair of the White Worm ★★★★

Anything post the mid 70s for Ken Russell tends to be written off as 'poor work' Not so in my book, as the enfant terrible of British cinema still knocked up some treats from then on and up until his death, with this delightful camp Hammer horror spoof take on Bram Stoker's novel being one of them.

Sexy, silly and surreal with splendid turns from a pre Four Weddings Hugh Grant as the dashing hero, a pre The Thick Of It Peter Capaldi as the brains and Amanda Donohoe as the slinky seductive villainess - how she didn't go on to become the next Diana Rigg after this is beyond me.
