Because in the last few years it has now most definitely become a thing. A thing worth celebrating.
*I have widened the remit on this to now include certain period pieces and stuff that goes beyond the gritty/social realism genre - Mark, 28/1/18*
Open to suggestions. Feature length, short or mini series it doesn't matter. They just have to be made within the last few years (nothing before 2010), set in a predominantly rural British area, and be quite poignant, bittersweet, melancholic or contemplative, gritty, socially realistic or unflinching, and overall suggests a sort of isolation from things in tone (though I will possibly accept some cross over into rural horror) to qualify. What I'm looking for is something that is clearly part of this wave, not just something that happens to be set in the countryside. There must be a certain bleakness to the film, either in the tone or the scenery, or both.
