"So why do you shop at night, then?"
    "People wind me up."
    "How?"
    "They're ignorant."

The Female has been expressly designed to entice and lure males of the target species, delivering them to be harvested for their meat. She's tracked by an ever-lurking handler, who monitors her for aberrant personality growth and acts as a deterrent against attempts to deviate from her prescribed role. Her body autonomy was revoked before she was born but this isn't considered to be an…

"You want me to make this easy for you? No, no fucking way, it's not gonna be! IT'S NOT EASY FOR ME!"

How can you go on living once you've chosen evil and the consequences are closing in and it's too late for dreams, too late for forgiveness, too late even for acceptance of fate? I rather much enjoyed this film and I'm not sure why the reception to it was so flat, maybe it's too sedate and grounded when the audience wanted something fantastic. Or maybe Portait of a Lady On Fire has simply raised the bar on historical lesbian dramas to a degree unattainable for the majority of similar projects.

A lot comes across without being said in Ammonite, some silly tropes are avoided, everything feels mature and emotions are kept restrained enough to keep the people feeling real, this is one of those movies that I commend for all the things it DOESN'T do.

Mehhhhhhh. The synopsis and marketing write a check the actual product can't cash. The strong first episode sets up a basic but promising revenge tale of a young female director trying to even the score against a predatory producer but we take so many ridiculous twists and turns along the path that you don't even care that much by the time you finally get to the messy, lackluster payoff. There's a metric shit ton of body horror stuff which should…

"Now everyone thinks they should be living some life out the movies. Life is hard, stop acting like it ain't. Just do what you gotta and don't hurt no one."

I'm wary of 'poverty porn' or 'misery porn' movies because IMO they can sometimes descend into contrived melodrama, as if they don't trust you to have the proper emotional response and think they must rub your nose in the anguish to get their point across. It's a thin line between…
