Lady Bird ★★★½

a good film! And a good Sacramento film. Gerwig is forever a gift, and a personal pet peeve is calling her work slight - this level of neuroses, these familial and female dynamics, this push beyond nostalgia towards reflection for the Demi-internet adolescence and its place in contemporary narrative, its interaction with the West Coast and geography and class and white people as a culture and not just something default, all of this can be bright and springy and pleasant and lacking in machismo, but that doesn't make it slight. Do feel somewhat compelled to bump this down a half star, because it doesn't move beyond its own admittedly delightful brand of egocentrism? Reminded me not of woody Allen, but Diane Keaton...
