I hadn't seen this since the Peter Jackson version was new. What's most surprising now is how this is more efficiently paced than modern blockbusters (I watched it with two friends who are by no means "movie people" and they were enthralled the full time), and how brutal it is for its era. There's a lot of civilian death. Kong really enjoys tasting fools.
