Mark Kinsella’s review published on Letterboxd:
"1, 2, Freddy is coming for you... 3, 4, better lock your door... 5, 6, get a crucifix... 7, 8, gotta stay up late... 9, 10, never sleep again!" - Anybody remember the days when that rhyme sent a ice cold shiver down your spine?
Scary, smart and essential. Horror films like this with such imagination are rarely made these days but Wes Cravens career masterpiece is still unsurpassed in terms of its inventiveness.
Superior kills and shocks are plentiful but Robert Englund as the razor fingered, Freddy Krueger, made a generation piss blood, and personally, who unashamedly made me cower with a torch underneath my bed sheets for nights on end during my teenage years. Heather Langenkamp remains one of the best (and most resourceful and smartest) scream queens in horror history and who could ever forget Johnny Depp's demise in a fountain of blood!? Or, the blonde girl been cut open and dragged across the ceiling?!?!
These are the scenes that make A Nightmare on Elm Street as iconic as it deserves to be. A classic.
