    Something Wild

Watched as part of our continuing 'White Yuppies in Distress' season.

    Ranking so far:

    1. Something Wild (1986)
    2. After Hours (1985)
    3. Into The Night (1985)

So far it is white men in distress, clearly, and also white straight men in distress too, as all the protagonists are lulled into nighttime drama by an exciting woman; I haven't thought it through, but are there equivalent films from the time about women being drawn into the night by exciting men?…

Goldblum and Pfeiffer are charming, but not necessarily together.

The pace is off. There are so many slow, quiet scenes, as if Landis is trying to create some broody noir in the middle of a farce, but it manages to miss every target.

    California Suite

    ★★

I'd watch two hours of Michael Caine and Maggie Smith at the Oscars.
I'd watch an hour of Jane Fonda and Alan Alda divorcing.
I've seen enough of Walter Matthau trying to hide infidelity from Elaine May (although I'd like to see then do something else).
Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby fighting? Annoying. Painful. Awful. No thanks. Such a waste (yet again) of Pryor.
