Attempted murder!? Well it's not like he killed someone!
I thought managing to go see this at the cinema last year would curb my Robocop thirst, but here I am only a couple of months later finding myself wanting to watch it above any of the new content I have at my fingertips. What makes Robocop so irresistible? Maybe it's just wired perfectly for my brain or something, but that one hour, fourty three minutes goes by in a flash every single time.
I recall Robocop always being there, in the corners of my memory for a really long time, but it wasn't until four or so years ago that I properly sat down and watched it. What I had thought was just a cheesy action film was literally so much more, that I watched it twice in a row, mouth agape for the whole evening. So much has already been said about the genius of the news reports, and the billboards and the dialogue that there's no point going over it again, so I thought I'd concentrate on one of my favourite action characters to ever come out of sci-fi, and that is Officer Lewis (played perfectly by Nancy Allen).
She has got to have one of the best, most simple yet defining character introductions I have ever seen. Her knee buried deep into the stomach of her suspect, she whips of her helmet AND SHE'S A FUCKING WOMEN. And she has short hair, and she wears her police armour and uniform the whole fucking time whilst blowing fucking bubblegum in your FUCKING FACE. She is not there as fluff, cheesecake or sexy vice undercover worker, she's a fucking cop and she's fucking good and being one. You wouldn't think something like that would be so revolutionary but it fucking is and its rapidly turning into one of my favourite parts of Robocop the more I think about it. AND ITS NOT LIKE HER AND MURPHY EVEN HAVE A ROMANCE. Jesus fucking christ I could WEEP with JOY over that.
Officer Lewis is up there with Ripley as my favourite females in film, because as much as I like to see girls in cute dresses kicking butt, I fucking LOVE them doing it in boiler suits.
I don't even know if this is really going anywhere, I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELS ABOUT THIS FILM.
Also I really like that Ray Wise and Albert from Twin Peaks are in this together~
