Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home ★★★★★

The first MCU film post-Endgame, and man was it an amazing ride!

It's hard for me to fully wrap my thoughts on this film without the spoilers, but I think it improves upon Homecoming in every way. The action in particular is a major step-up, with every sequence being vibrant and shows creative ways of the iconic character web-slinging. Other sequences are shot in surprising ways that was unexpected for the MCU. I can't spoil it if you still haven't seen it yet, but when you see it, you'll know what I'm talking about.

At this point, Tom Holland is officially my favorite Spider-Man. He keeps growing and growing with each new movie he's in with this character, and he's had an amazing growth so far. Between the post-Endgame stress and his desire to fall in love with MJ, we're mixed with relatability and vulnerability in a meaningful way.

What really blew me away with Far From Home however was Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. Love that character, Jake really committed to a hugely creative character, and I want to see more of this character in the future. That's all I'm going to say!

The movie mixes two different tones in the movie, the John Hughes comedy from Homecoming and a spy caper vibe. There's a major tonal shift in the second half which is darker in nature. For some, it'll be jarring and the shift initially felt disjointed, but at the end of the day, I welcomed it because Jon Watts' direction signified a major growth from Peter Parker becoming the scrawny awkward teenager to a young adult learning to find his place in this complicated post-snap world, and I loved the direction this movie went, culminating in some of the MCU's best, best end-credit scenes, leaving me super pumped for Phase 4 actually!

I still think Endgame is the best of the MCU, but even so, I think Marvel still has more to tell, and I'll be ready for whatever comes next! Far From Home was an amazing epilogue officially capping the Infinity Saga, and I hope Spidey becomes a vital player in the next stages of the MCU!
