Finally, I can breathe!!!!!!!
It’s very rare these days that Hollywood produces a sequel that isn’t just the same old stuff that they think people want to see. For example, ‘the hangover part 2’. But what John Krasinksi does with this film, he brings more story depth and character development in a film that literally picks up where the first film ended.
When the title card pops up saying “day 1” we, the audience, know what is in store. And what a excellent way of opening the film. Krasinksi crafted the tone for the film very well. And the way the story is told in the prologue. It could have been a short film on its own that bridged the gap between each film. He is a gifted director truly. And as a writer.
The first film was more of a home invasion film, this one is like a road trip, the family is split up for most parts. This brings new settings, new places, new characters.
The stand out new character is Cillian Murphy. Yes he might not bring the charm that Krasinksi had, but he is still a great addition to the already talented cast.
Whilst the pace may have seemed to drag in places which the first film didn’t. This is one of the best sequels in modern time, I might still have the first one slightly over this one. But this is a film to not be missed in cinemas! Go see it!!!
This has given me massive TLOU vibes and I’m all on board for it!!!
