Promising Young Woman

Promising Young Woman ★★★★

Wow! What a fantastic directorial debut.

Carey Mulligan was insane. So great and moving. Bo Burnham blew me away in many ways. This was just a twistingly funny, haunting, emotional, jaw dropping thrill ride. This was the first time I got to go to a movie theater in a while and to be blown away by a movie that I knew nothing about, was not anticipating, and just blindly chose is such a joy. The last act of this movie is literally balls to the walls crazy. It kind of reminded me of how I felt watching the final act of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Emerald Fennell is a true talent.

This movie gets extra points for two things. It features an emotional breakdown with that creepy children’s river song from Night of the Hunter and also features Christopher Mintz-Plasse as a coke snorting, novel writing, douchebag predator with a framed Fellini’s Satyricon poster in his living room.

This will be a classic.
