Nice to see director Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan) doing something high profile again, that isn't a remake.
It's also nice to see Eddie Murphy caring about a project again and making an effort. His energy is great but he neither resembles Rudy Ray Moore nor does his tenor register match Moore's deep, abrasive voice. Keegan-Michael Key is a mixed bag, sometimes on point, otherwise too bug eyed and arch to be believable. Wesley Snipes absolutely steals the show, I had no idea the actor could be that funny.
Similarly to The Disaster Artist, although Dolemite is my Name is a slick recreation of a bad film maker's craft, you'd be better off seeing the source material.
