Mathias Larsen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Fun fact: Kurosawa had no intention for Ran to be an adaptation of King Lear until after production. It’s actually based on 16th century Japanese war lord Mōri Motonari and his sons, Ran is based on a premise where these loyal sons betray their father. The King Lear narrative was kind off coincidental but from a marketing standpoint it certainly makes sense.
But man this movie is absolutely incredible. Literally becomes better with ever rewatch.
