    Before Midnight

    β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Being the last part of the Before Trilogy, Before Midnight shows where Jesse and Celine are after another 9 years and how they've been doing as a family. It doesn't have the same magic feeling compared to the first two films, rather it portrays the struggles they've to deal after committing to one another. The argument scene and ending are very well-written as it doesn't side with neither Jesse nor Celine.

    Before Sunset

    β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

This movie wastes no time in reintroducing Jesse and Celine and establishing what happened after the 9 years they meet. It's fascinating to watch these two people try to reconnect in real-time with a limited amount of time, especially when they create and break down their façades. When the film passes the midpoint, everything is recontextualized and tension of will they end up together increases until the very end.

    Bad Education

    β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Bad Education tells the story of one of America's biggest embezzlement fraud in a riveting way. The movie sets up the situation and the stakes nicely, and once the conflict arises, the movie unfolds keeping me engaged throughout. Hugh Jackman gave one of the best performance of 2020. The movie could have given more screen time to student journalist since she plays a major role in the incident.

    The Farewell

    β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…Β½

The Farewell is a heart-warming family drama based on an actual lie. The movie feels authentic as if you're watching real-life events unfold in from of you. The casts are all phenomenal and brings personality to their character, especially Awkwafina and Shao Shuzhen. The movie knows how to balance the funny and sad tone of the film. The celebration kinda drags a bit but it serves it purpose to show the culture of the Chinese people.
