Don't you think maybe they are the same thing? Love and attention?
At it's core, that's really what Lady Bird is all about. It's a mother/daughter story and a story of letting your childhood and everything about it. But this movie really wouldn't have been this effective if the character of Lady Bird wasn't so good. She's a charming, larger than life personality that's played fantastically by Saoirse Ronan. And this coming of age tale tells a story of a rebellious youth who wants to come into her own. It's baller! Rewatching it, I just kept finding new things to love and things that I didn't necessarily like that much, grew to love. Because the writing is so good. Greta Gerwig has co-written a lot of great movies in the past, but with this solo debut, she shows that she's truly a great talent and I'm just looking forward to her bright future as a filmmaker.
Coming back to it, this is really a movie about love and attention, more specifically about love and attention between Lady Bird and her mother, played by Laurie Metcalf, who has one of the greatest scenes near the end and has a lot of chemistry with Ronan. What else to say, but...I love it!
