Tonally, it's a bit ramshackle (it's a movie where a guy comically gets his silhouette punched through a wall, but also a kid gets stabbed to death), but you can instantly see why it made Bruce Lee a star. Sure, the story and the camerawork frame him as heroic, but he has that added, ineffable quality that makes you root for him and see him as something special. When he finally starts throwing punches and kicks, you can't help but cheer.
