The Social Network ★★★★★

"We lived on farms, then we lived in cities, and now we're going to live on the internet!"

A brilliant biopic about the creation of Facebook, perfectly scripted (as usual) by Aaron Sorkin and pristinely directed (as usual) by David Fincher. Every scene is beautifully framed and edited, the script manages to be intelligent while also respecting the audience, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's dark ambient score is a thing of twisted beauty.
The cast is excellent too. Jesse Eisenberg perfectly captures Mark Zuckerberg's intelligence, vulnerability, and sarcastic wit, while Armie Hammer's double-barreled performance as identical twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss is so well executed you almost believe they're two separate actors. However, particular praise has to go to Andrew Garfield, whose sympathetic portrayal of Eduardo Saverin nearly steals the entire movie.
Facebook is one of the defining achievements of the internet age, and may well have changed our society forever. This film is a unique portrait of that achievement, and a defining film of this generation.
