The Father

The Father ★★★★½

Anthony Hopkins gives the best performance of the year and easily a top-five in his career in this gripping, realistic portrayal of dementia. Olivia Colman also gives a magnificent performance as his daughter. The way this movie captures memory and the disorientation that comes with dementia is masterful. This was an excellent debut for Florian Zeller and he adapted his own play extremely well. Zeller blended the best parts of theatre and film to present the story. Combined with amazing editing, you really feel Anthony's perspective of confusion. A must-watch for this awards season.
