Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home ★★★★★

I just want to enjoy these Tom Holland movies for what they are: John Hughes inspired superhero movies that find themselves in, and are brilliantly reshaping, the MCU.

The tone is young adult and silly, and despite the constant appearances from other MCU characters (Tony, Happy, Fury etc.) these feel like stand alone movies. The stakes and conflicts are (mostly) isolated to each individual Spider-Man movie which is refreshing. I love when action movies can spend a lot of time worrying about romance and melodrama and it simultaneously isn’t taking away from the thrill of the story.

And it doesn’t hurt that Tom Holland and Zendaya are brilliant together on and off the screen.
