I think the character work was better in the remake, but this laid the framework for that and is still such an amazing story.

Literally just toxic masculinity projected onto a preteen child for an hour and twenty minutes. Imagine making a movie about predatory sex, harmful language, physical violence, and substance abuse only to never condemn or examine any of those things. This feels like a “boys will be boys” excuse. Jonah Hill, do better.
