Max Cunningham’s review published on Letterboxd:
Oooo, this was very cool. I've been intimidated by this movie for a long time. During the first few minutes, I was nervous for a ninety minute metaphysical meditation on death and chess, but it's actually a much more lively—and simultaneously bleak—movie. It's funny and silly and scary, with crazy good lighting and framing. Max Von Sydow has like, THE jaw line of that era.
Excited for more Bergman goodness to come.
