I’ve been wanting to watch this for quite a while and I was really pleasantly surprised. This film reminds me a lot of The Big Lebowski, Inherent Vice and Under The Silver Lake which almost makes it an instant winner. It has a lot of charm and energy and a plot that keep you guessing throughout. Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling have great chemistry in the film and are very believable as partners. Ryan Gosling is absolutely hilarious almost every one of his lines are quotable and amazing. Some of the action did fall kind of flat for me but there were lots of set pieces that were interesting and funny so that made up for it. Overall this is an entertaining, funny and enthralling crime/mystery/comedy.
(I’m starting to think I have an obsession with L.A. set murder/kidnapping mysteries and I think it’s beginning to be a problem)
