    To this day, no other movie has captured so well what it felt like to grow up as an Asian American struggling under the academic pressure of a high-achieving public school in California during the aughts. Rewatching it with almost two decades of hindsight, it still hits super hard.

    Transphobic, triggering, and unwatchably ableist against folks with DID. So sick of watching people with this disorder be villainized and portrayed as violent and unstable. Hard to stomach when you actually know people with DID--lovely ones, at that, who are often survivors of great trauma--and have to watch them get slandered onscreen, over and over again.

    Despite Promising Young Woman's well-executed interrogation of rape culture, Fennell makes controversial narrative decisions. Leaving the theater, I even heard a woman call the film sexist, likely due to the way these decisions fall straight into longstanding tropes.
