Jarod Borem’s review published on Letterboxd:
A lot to really enjoy here, in particular Andrew Garfield’s stellar lead performance. However, there’s a lot I really didn’t enjoy. Honestly wasn’t huge on the music in the film; especially in regards to the way in which the musical numbers were staged and filmed. Choreography felt very bloated and stale. Cinematography isn’t the best either. A lot of shots looked overexposed and rather dull. Really felt like a big budget made for television film more often than not. I think the story of Jonathan Larson is a great one but I don’t think this film did a whole lot to make me care (aside from Garfield’s unflinching performance). Wish I had more to say but I didn’t get much out of this aside from gleeful entertainment.
