Dog Day Afternoon

Dog Day Afternoon ★★★★

Aside from having what may be the greatest title of all time, Dog Day Afternoon is quite the stellar picture. When this thing is on, oh boy is it on! Unfortunately I had a few things that held it back from all time levels and I'll get those out of the way first. Overall, I feel like this could have been streamlined a bit. Some of the scenes feel slightly dragged out and it can dilute the tension of the story sometimes. And as the film went on, it got repetitive from time to time, some sequences just mushing together without leaving much real impact. But other than that, this was pretty great! You have to start with Al Pacino who gives one of the most enjoyable performances I think I've ever seen. His energy is utterly infectious here, making any time he's on screen a blast to watch unfold. The way he says his vowels is just... perfection. The whole look of the film was really cool, the opening montage, amazing stuff! When it comes to the story, I was pretty impressed. This being entirely true just makes this whole thing that much crazier. Again, there were points that got a bit distracted in my opinion but when this is just focused on the melting pot of characters and tension, it's amazing! I don't have a ton of thoughts on this one, it's just a great film, 100% lives up to it's classic status. Really good stuff!
