John Wick: Chapter 2 ★★★★★

When John Wick arrived in the scene in 2014, I had no idea that I was walking into and ended up watching one of the best American action films ever made. Flash forward to now and I went into Chapter 2 knowing pretty much what to expect but I still managed to leave satisfied and most importantly I left surprised.

I was suprised that a film that's pretty much Dumb Fun (capital letters) is still as technically sound (if not more so) than most genre films.

I was surprised that this sequel  still feels new even though on the surface it might seem like a retread of the first film. John Wick Kills Dudes™ is really all you needed to sell the first one and it's all you'd need to do to make people come back for anotther. I'm sure Chad Stahleski and friends knew that so in addition to John Wick Killing Dudes™, we got a lot of wonderful worldbuilding about the organization John getting pulled back into. It's ridiculous but it's so fucking cool and not the "Xander Cage leaping off of a radio tower and skiing through a jungle" type of cool which isn't cool by any stretch of the imagination.

It's the type of cool that can only exist under the banner of John Wick. It's the kind of cool that embraces how bonkers it is and revels in it while still crafting a well made action flick on every fundamental level. It's well shot, well edited, well choreographed, it sounds amazing and once again it's a looooot of fun.
