Dave assigned me this movie to watch in honor of the late Sam Shepard, not knowing that a month later my first-time viewing of it would also serve as a timely farewell to the great Harry Dean Stanton. I tip my hat to both men and their wandering souls. This movie casts a long shadow, and is likely to provoke indefinite sessions of introspection. Probably best watched alone. That penultimate scene, Stanton telling Kinski the story..moments like that are what immortal movies are made of
