Post-Classical American Cinema: The Final Decade (August 1967 - July 1977)

Many film lovers believe that the decade of the 1970s was the greatest one in the history of American cinema. It is my contention that the decade actually began on August 13, 1967 with the release of Bonnie and Clyde and ended on May 25, 1977 with the release of Star Wars. This period saw the rise of the director being recognized as the driving creative force behind a film (although there were earlier exceptions during the classical Hollywood period, and especially the new waves of European cinema of the previous decade.)
